The Federal Government has kicked off disbursing funds to more than 9,000 staff members across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions through the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF). This initiative, part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to boost staff welfare, productivity, and innovation nationwide.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the milestone, highlighting that the first-year payments cover both academic and non-academic staff in a 30:70 ratio, reflecting government’s commitment to inclusiveness. Nearly 28% of the 33,000 verified staff from federal and state universities, polytechnics, and colleges are benefitting.
TISSF provides zero-interest loans up to N10 million to help staff meet essential needs like housing, healthcare, education, transportation, and small businesses. Beyond financial aid, the initiative seeks to restore dignity and reward dedication, strengthening Nigeria’s knowledge economy.
The Ministry promises full transparency through quarterly reports and monitoring to ensure funds are well-utilized and to extend the program’s reach.
