A 55-year-old farmer, Sunday Olowosoga, found himself in hot water at the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Friday. He’s been charged with maliciously damaging crops and palm trees valued at N3 million after allegedly bulldozing farmland during a dispute with the owner. Despite the serious charges of misdemeanor, Sunday pleaded not guilty. The court granted him bail of N1.2 million, asking for a surety who must live locally and prove two years of tax payments. The case will continue on November 10 — justice in motion.
This case highlights ongoing tensions in agricultural communities where land disputes lead to costly damage and court battles. As farmers and landowners navigate these conflicts, the impact on livelihoods and local economies is significant, underscoring the need for fair resolutions.
