Dr. Anthony Ajiboye, General Surgeon at Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, is urging women to prioritize regular self breast examinations as a simple yet crucial tool for cancer prevention. Speaking in Ilorin during the 2025 Cancer Awareness Month lecture, Dr. Ajiboye emphasized that self-exams help women spot changes in breast size, shape, skin, or lumps early making treatment more effective.
He also highlighted other preventive measures like avoiding tobacco, eating healthy foods rich in fruits and vegetables, and limiting radiation and UV exposure, especially for vulnerable groups like people living with albinism. Vaccinations against HPV and Hepatitis, particularly for young girls, were strongly encouraged as life-saving steps.
Dr. Ajiboye called on all levels of government to conduct frequent mass screenings and vaccination drives while promoting public awareness through media campaigns to strengthen cancer control efforts.
