Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has been unanimously elected as President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF). The election took place on October 25, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and was supervised by the National Sports Commission.
Adeniyi secured all 14 votes from Executive Board members, signifying strong confidence in his leadership. The election was widely praised for its transparency and peaceful conduct, reflecting the positive impact of ongoing reforms in Nigerian sports administration.
NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada highlighted Adeniyi’s unwavering commitment to national development and his significant contributions to sports, noting his leadership of the Customs Sports Unit as exemplary and influential in nurturing champions across various disciplines.
In his acceptance remarks, Adeniyi expressed optimism about the future of wrestling in Nigeria, commending President Bola Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector. He pledged to align the Federation’s vision with national sports reforms, focusing on transparency, effective leadership, athlete development, and innovation.
Adeniyi assured stakeholders that under his tenure, the Federation will work towards expanding sponsorships and inclusivity, enhancing athlete welfare, and strengthening Nigeria’s competitive edge globally.
