ABUJA TEAMS SWEEP TITLES AT 2025 NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE IN UMUAHIA

The 2025 National Division I and II Nigerian Volleyball League wrapped up on Saturday at the Umuahia Township Stadium in Abia State with a strong showing from teams based in Abuja, who dominated multiple categories.

In the Division Two Men’s category, Light Volleyball Club of Abuja took the championship, with Bayelsa Volleyball Club and Rhino Volleyball Club from Plateau State coming second and third, respectively.

The Division One Women’s competition mirrored this success as VIP Volleyball Club from Abuja clinched the top spot. Fire Service Volleyball Club finished second, and Abia’s Excelsior Volleyball Club secured third place.

Defence Spiker Volleyball Club from Abuja also emerged victorious in the Division One Men’s category, with Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club and Lifecamp Volleyball Club rounding out the top three.

Nigeria Volleyball Federation President, Musa Nimrod, praised the Abia government for hosting a successful event and highlighted the expanding significance of volleyball in national sports development. He commended Works Minister Senator David Umahi for the supportive environment and assured ongoing efforts to elevate Nigeria’s presence in international volleyball.

Abia State Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Nwobilor Ananaba, credited Governor Alex Otti for the support that made the tournament possible and noted the league’s positive impact on local economy and youth engagement.

The tournament featured clubs from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and showcased the growing talent and competitiveness in Nigerian volleyball. Plans are already underway for the league’s return next year.
