NSCDC LAGOS IDENTIFIES SCRAP DEALERS AS KEY OFFENDERS IN NATIONAL ASSET VANDALISM

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has revealed that scrap dealers are the primary culprits behind the vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI). Commandant Keshinro Adedotun shared this insight during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ikorodu, Lagos.

To curb the issue, NSCDC plans to regulate scrap trading hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., since investigations show vandalism often occurs at night. The command has also launched community sensitization programs in Ikorodu’s senatorial district, helping significantly reduce vandalism reports.

Representatives from the scrap dealers association emphasized their commitment to eradicating criminal elements within their ranks, highlighting that scrap metal is a valuable resource and not waste. They condemned vandalism as destructive to national heritage and urged collaborators to help apprehend offenders.

Traditional leaders and other community groups lauded NSCDC’s efforts and called for intensified action to secure the nation’s infrastructure through collective responsibility.
