NGF PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN RUNSEWE BLAMES ADMINISTRATORS FOR MISINFORMATION ON FIFA GOAL PROJECT IN KEBBI

Olusegun Runsewe, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), says misinformation about the FIFA Goal project in Kebbi stems from administrators’ failure to work closely with mainstream media. Speaking at the 60th anniversary and awards lecture in Abuja, Runsewe pointed out that many public officials exclude journalists from their activities, leaving a void quickly filled by social media influencers spreading false news.

He urged sports administrators to stop blaming sports writers for fake news and instead collaborate with them to protect their brands and promote accurate information. Runsewe called for unity, emphasizing that progress requires teamwork and that “no matter how intelligent a man is, he cannot clap with one hand.”

Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), echoed the call for responsible journalism, warning against sensational stories that may generate clicks but ultimately harm Nigerian sports’ reputation and growth.

Phillip Shuaibu, Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, praised the government’s political will in sports reforms and stressed the importance of institutionalizing efforts for lasting impact.

The Nigerian Sports Writers Association (SWAN) continues its 60th anniversary celebrations, recognizing outstanding contributions to Nigerian sports.
