CONNECT AFRICA INITIATIVE TRAINS CSOs ON GBV PREVENTION AND WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT IN KANO

Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI), an NGO, recently trained 20 civil society organisations in Kano State on gender-based violence (GBV) prevention advocacy and the adoption of Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) policy. The two-day training, held under the Women Against Violence, Empowered through Sustainability (WAVES) Phase II project and supported by the French Embassy, brought together CSO leaders to boost collaboration and build advocacy skills.

Project lead Mr. Nathan Bako explained that the training marks the start of a new phase focused on policy engagement, as Kano works toward domesticating the national WEE framework. Once adopted, the policy will enhance women’s access to education, resources, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities.

Bako emphasized building a united CSO voice in Kano to push for sustainable economic inclusion and real policy change, tackling GBV and boosting empowerment hand-in-hand.
