The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has come out strong to deny rumors that it instructed schools to limit subject choices for Senior Secondary students taking the 2026 WASSCE. Mrs. Moyosola Adeshina, Acting Head of WAEC’s Public Affairs in Lagos, clarified on Tuesday that these reports are misleading and called on the public to rely only on official WAEC communications.
Adeshina explained that WAEC does not develop or regulate school curricula—that’s the Federal Government’s role. WAEC’s job is to assess candidates based on government-approved syllabuses, and any changes to subjects go through proper government channels.
“No directive restricting students’ choices for WASSCE 2026 has been issued,” she emphasized. WAEC pledged fairness, professionalism, and equal opportunity for all students. Parents, schools, and candidates are advised to watch official WAEC platforms for accurate exam guidelines.
“We remain committed to serving Nigerian students with transparency and integrity,” Adeshina reassured the public.
