The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has kicked off an exciting new vocational training program aimed at equipping students with real-world skills in automobile servicing and maintenance.
Announced by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the “Fundamentals of Automobile Service and Periodic Maintenance Training Programme” is part of UNIBEN’s broader Vocational and Technical Training Programme (VTTP).
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Edoba Omoregie explained that this initiative underlines the university’s commitment to blending academic learning with practical skills development. “Our goal is to transform UNIBEN into a hub for vocational excellence, empowering students to be job creators, not just job seekers,” he said.
The first phase targets engineering undergraduates, offering hands-on instruction by industry experts in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and servicing.
Coordinating the program, Prof. Andrew Amenaghawon described it as a “bold step” positioning UNIBEN as a leader in technical education, emphasizing that it’s about more than fixing cars it’s about enhancing employability and fostering independence.
