Independent UN human rights investigators have revealed that Russian drone attacks on civilians in Ukrainian-held territories along the lower Dnipro River are driving populations away, leaving some areas almost deserted. The report highlights a sharp population decline, with mainly elderly and impoverished residents remaining.
The strikes are systematic, targeting not just civilians but also firefighters, ambulances, and repair crews, often setting homes on fire and blocking efforts to control the damage. The destruction of essential utilities like electricity, gas, and water has rendered communities unlivable.
Dubbed a “human safari” by locals, Russian drones chase civilians over long distances, spreading terror in the Kherson region. The report classifies these attacks and forced deportations from Russian-occupied southern Zaporizhzhya as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Despite repeated requests, UN investigators were denied access to Russian-controlled areas, relying on over 200 witness interviews and extensive video evidence to compile their findings.
