The Nigerian Senate is set to confirm the newly appointed Service Chiefs on Wednesday, October 29, following a letter from President Bola Tinubu seeking their approval. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the screening during Tuesday’s plenary, emphasizing the urgency of confirming the Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Chiefs so they can begin their duties promptly.
President Tinubu nominated Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
This timely confirmation is part of ongoing efforts to boost the nation’s security architecture, improve professionalism, morale, and coordination among the armed forces.
