NPC LEADERSHIP TRANSITION: NASIR KWARRA HANDS OVER TO MUHAMMAD DATTIJO AS ACTING CHAIRMAN

The National Population Commission (NPC) in Nigeria has officially seen a smooth leadership handover as Chairman Nasir Isa Kwarra concluded his five-year tenure and handed over to Federal Commissioner Muhammad Usman Dattijo, who will serve as Acting Chairman. This ceremony took place at the NPC headquarters in Abuja.

Kwarra expressed gratitude for the support from commissioners, management, and staff during his tenure, highlighting major achievements under his leadership such as strengthening demographic data systems, digitizing civil registration, and progressing preparations for Nigeria’s upcoming Population and Housing Census—its first digital census in decades.

Dattijo’s acting role ensures continuity as the commission awaits the formal swearing-in of Aminu Yusuf, the substantive Chairman recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu and confirmed by the Senate.

The event featured official handover notes, a farewell gift presentation to Kwarra, and tributes celebrating his contributions to modernizing Nigeria’s demographic infrastructure.
