Officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces have emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration with the media to ensure peace and security across the country. During the maiden Press Week organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)-NUJ Headquarters Chapel in Abuja, they applauded journalists for their critical role in amplifying military efforts.
Acting Army Public Relations Director Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, represented by Maj. Akinola Ajibola, praised the media for showcasing military activities which are often conducted privately. Highlighting the impact of insurgency in Maiduguri, she stressed that fighting such threats requires joint effort and responsible media portrayal.
Nigerian Air Force’s Director of Public Relations, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, represented by Sqn.-Ldr Olayinka Lawal, reinforced the message, noting that public support forms 75% of the fight against insurgency. The Air Force’s recent initiative opening bases to civilians aimed to build understanding and humanize service members, many of whom endure long separations from family.
Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Yusuf Yakub, praised NAN for fostering responsible journalism that supports national values and Nigeria’s global image.
NAN Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Mufutau Ojo, congratulated the organizers, calling the event a “magnificent outing” that strengthens the media’s role in national development.
