NIGERIA AND GHANA SET TO CLASH IN “THE HERITAGE CUP” RUGBY FRIENDLY

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has kicked off its new tenure with an exciting announcement – an international friendly match against Ghana, aptly named “the Heritage Cup.” The game is set for November 29, 2025, at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium in Accra, a thrilling prospect for fans eager to see the historic rivalry reignite.

Re-elected NRFF President Dr. Ademola Are said the match will be intense, with national pride and bragging rights on the line. It’s also the first official engagement for the new board, elected on October 25, symbolizing a fresh start and renewed energy for Nigerian rugby.

The match is part of a broader strategy to keep players active, build competitive momentum, and ensure representation from every geopolitical zone in Nigeria. The federation is equally committed to growing women’s rugby, with plans to host the Africa Regional Women’s Sevens in 2026 featuring teams from across West Africa.

“This event, combined with our Rugby Rising Initiative, will help strengthen female leagues and spotlight Nigeria’s growing influence in continental rugby,” Are added.
