At the 10th Enugu Ladies Open Golf Championship on Monday, Mrs. Evelyn Oyome, President of the Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN), praised golf for bringing together people from all walks of life. She highlighted the health benefits of golf, explaining that walking an 18-hole course up to five times a week provides excellent endurance exercise for the heart.
Oyome, who also won the championship, commended Lady Nkiru Agbogu and the Enugu Golf Section for successfully hosting the tournament that showcased female golfers’ talents. She reflected on her personal performance, sharing her scores over the three days of competition during her last tournament as LGAN president before handing over to Vice President Dr. Lami Ahmed.
Dismissing golf’s elitist image, Oyome encouraged beginners to avoid costly equipment and focus on enjoying the game.
The Enugu Sports Club celebrated the event as a memorable three-day affair, noting the warm hospitality shown to visitors enjoying local delicacies. Challenges like funding were acknowledged, but the spirit of camaraderie and skill development shone through.
