Olawale Akanni, also known as Bashorun, a legal practitioner and pastor, was arraigned before the Ikeja High Court on charges of indecent treatment of a 14-year-old girl in Lagos.
Akanni denied the allegations related to an incident in 2010 where he was accused of fondling the minor’s breast while she was under his custody.
The prosecution urged the court to remand Akanni and adjourn the trial, but his defence requested bail retention, stating he is not a flight risk due to his professional status.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi upheld the bail conditions and instructed the defence to ensure Akanni’s attendance at all court sessions.
The alleged victim, now 27 and a trader, shared in court her experience of molestation and harsh punishments while living with Akanni’s family, revealing the case’s prolonged impact.
The trial was adjourned following a defence request to secure court documents, with a N50,000 cost imposed for the delay, payable before the next session.
