LAGOS EKO CARES PROGRAM HELPS OVER 1,000 RESIDENTS WITH ₦460 MILLION IN FINANCIAL AID

Fewer than 1,000 Lagos residents have benefited from the state government’s Eko Cares/Eko Listens Financial Assistance Programme, receiving cheques ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦1.5 million. The ₦460 million disbursed supports businesses, healthcare, and persons with disabilities.

The event at Blue Roof Arena Ikeja saw hundreds of grateful recipients applaud Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for providing relief during tough economic times. Represented by Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the program’s goal: “giving a hand up, not a handout,” enabling Lagosians to take control of their future.

This year’s fund increased to ₦1.6 billion from ₦1.4 billion last year, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusion and compassion. Hamzat praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative as a vital reform supporting Nigeria’s brighter future.

Special Adviser Dr Afolabi Tajudeen said Eko Listens embodies the inclusive ideals of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, restoring hope to thousands since its 2020 launch.

With a rigorous selection from over 5,000 applicants, 46% of beneficiaries are women. Recipients expressed gratitude, like Mrs Funke Adeyemi who plans to expand her tailoring business and employ apprentices.
