China reaffirmed its firm partnership with the United Nations and underscored its commitment to global peace, stability, and shared development as the world body celebrated its 80th anniversary. In a new documentary titled “The UN at 80: China’s Perspective”, produced by China Global Television Network (CGTN), China recounted its vital contributions to global governance, peacekeeping, and sustainable development.
From its founding role as one of the major allied powers in World War II to being a permanent UN Security Council member, China emphasized its longstanding dedication to multilateralism and collective responsibility. The documentary highlights China’s leadership in environmental cooperation, urban sustainability projects like Beijing’s Miyun Reservoir, and advocacy for women’s rights, including support for gender equality globally.
Chinese officials stressed the need for global governance reform to address rising challenges like unilateralism. China’s newly launched Global Governance Initiative (GGI) promotes principles rooted in the UN Charter—such as sovereign equality, international law, multilateralism, and pragmatic cooperation—as a roadmap for a shared future. China pledged continued collaboration with the UN and countries worldwide to advance poverty reduction, infrastructure, education, and health.
As the UN continues evolving after eight decades, China positions itself as a proactive and influential partner in shaping a safer, more sustainable world.
