BAYERO UNIVERSITY KANO AND WRAPA TEAM UP TO PROTECT WOMEN AND GIRLS’ RIGHTS

Bayero University Kano (BUK) is partnering with the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) to safeguard the rights of girls and women, announced Vice-Chancellor Prof. Haruna Musa during a Tuesday dialogue in Kano.

The event, themed “Affirming the Contribution of Culture and Faith Institutions to the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Northern Nigeria”, was organized by WRAPA alongside BUK’s Centre for Islamic Civilization and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID).

Prof. Musa highlighted BUK’s decade-long commitment to women’s empowerment through programs led by the Centre for Gender Studies, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The university welcomes partnerships aimed at uplifting women to global standards.

WRAPA’s Secretary-General, Hajiya Saudat Shehu-Mahdi, stressed the organization’s dedication to empowering women and girls to understand their rights and seek justice. The dialogue emphasized the important role faith and cultural leaders play in preventing violence and promoting accountability.

Representatives from the Sultan of Sokoto and other religious leaders praised the dialogue as timely and impactful. The event also featured panel discussions, gallery walks, and action roadmaps to foster collective efforts against gender-based violence in Northern Nigeria.
