Energy regulators and stakeholders from across Africa gathered in Lagos for the 19th OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week 2025, calling for stronger regional integration, harmonised policies, and increased investment to boost sustainability and competitiveness in the continent’s oil and gas sector.
The event, themed “Energy Sustainability: Growth Beyond Boundaries and Competition,” highlighted how fragmented regulations and inconsistent policies are holding back market growth despite Africa’s abundant resources. Speakers like Brima Koroma from Sierra Leone and Musa Njie from The Gambia stressed the crucial need for policy harmony, joint infrastructure, and coordinated governance to attract investors and enhance energy security.
Joyce Akabogu, CEO of OTL Downstream Development Africa, underscored the downstream sector’s role in economic transformation and urged bold investments in refining and distribution. She called for cross-border cooperation, skills development, and green technologies to transform Africa’s energy future.
The conference also featured exhibitions of innovations in refining, LPG, petrochemicals, and financial services, along with technical tours of key facilities like the Dangote Refinery.
