TRAGIC BOAT ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIVES OF FIVE TEENAGERS IN GOMBE

A heartbreaking boat mishap in Nafada town, Gombe State, on Saturday has taken the lives of five teenagers: Najib Ibrahim (18), Hauwa’u Dogal (15), Ummati Baraya (16), Umaira Gidado (16), and Amina Jaliya (15). The tragic incident has stirred deep sorrow across the community and state.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed profound grief in a condolence message to the families, describing the loss as painful and particularly tragic due to the youth of the victims. He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and the entire Nafada community.

The governor highlighted the importance of strict adherence to water transport safety standards to prevent such accidents in the future and urged local councils, community leaders, boat operators, and regulators to enforce safety protocols in riverine areas.

He has directed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Nafada Local Government Council to provide support to the affected families and called for increased safety awareness among riverine communities.

“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend our deepest sympathies,” Yahaya said, praying for peace for the departed souls and strength for their families.
