The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a strong warning to nightclub owners and party-goers about the alarming rise of illegal drug parties across Nigeria. This warning follows a recent raid at Proxy Night Club in Lagos, where over 100 attendees were apprehended during a brazen drug party held from Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi explained that such gatherings, which promote the consumption and distribution of illicit substances, are serious criminal offenses under Nigerian law. The agency described the drugs seized specifically 384.882 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis and confirmed that the raid was based on credible intelligence and meticulous surveillance.
Babafemi emphasized that these drug parties fuel Nigeria’s escalating drug abuse crisis, especially among youths, and serve as recruitment hubs for new addicts. The agency has assured the public that it will continue to intensify surveillance and pursue rigorous prosecution of all persons and properties involved, including hotels and event centers hosting such illegal activities.
The NDLEA also called on Nigerians parents, community leaders, and concerned citizens to stay vigilant and partner with law enforcement to eliminate this dangerous trend that threatens public health and national security.
