Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has abandoned his earlier plan to call witnesses in his terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. After reviewing the prosecution’s case file, Kanu told Justice James Omotosho he believed there was no valid charge against him and that he was subjected to an unlawful trial.
Kanu argued that with no legitimate case established, he would not proceed with his defense. The judge asked him to file a written statement to that effect and serve it on the prosecution, advising Kanu to consult criminal law experts on the consequences of his decision.
The court adjourned the matter to November 4, 5, and 6 for final written addresses based on Kanu’s no-case submission or for him to enter defense if he chooses. Kanu faces seven terrorism-related charges, which he denies.
