KADUNA COURTS SHUT AS JUSUN EMBARKS ON INDEFINITE STRIKE OVER FINANCIAL AUTONOMY, SALARY DEMANDS

Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Kaduna State has commenced an indefinite strike, shutting down Federal and State High Courts, Upper Shari’a court, Customary and Magistrates’ courts across the state. The strike follows the government’s failure to respond to repeated correspondences and ultimatum notices regarding their demands.

JUSUN’s demands include implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary as per the 1999 Constitution, payment of consequential salary adjustments, outstanding salaries for April and May 2021, nine years’ arrears of a 20% salary component, and settlement of leave and transport grants. They also seek payment of outfit allowances for judiciary staff.

The strike decision came after an emergency meeting on October 13, and all judicial activities were suspended starting Monday, October 27, 2025, until further notice. The union directed full compliance across all courts and judicial offices in Kaduna State.
