The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, firmly stated on Tuesday in Abuja that the Nigeria Police Force operates a promotion system that rewards diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity there is no scandal to talk about.
Speaking at the decoration ceremony for newly promoted officers, Egbetokun emphasized that the force will not be intimidated by those spreading falsehoods or trying to damage its integrity. He reiterated that promotions are strictly based on competence, performance, and discipline, with no room for nepotism or sentiment.
“This ceremony is more than a rank upgrade; it’s the affirmation of excellence, character, and service. It symbolizes our institutional strength, fairness, and the courage of our officers,” Egbetokun said.
He congratulated the 923 officers promoted this batch, including 16 senior officers like a Deputy Inspector-General, four Assistant Inspector-Generals, and 11 Commissioners, reminding them that higher ranks mean greater duties—to serve with wisdom and courage.
IG Egbetokun urged senior officers to uphold the highest ethical standards and embrace modern policing through community engagement and intelligence-led policing, harnessing technology and innovation to stay ahead of crime.
