Seven men aged between 21 and 26 have been charged before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court in Ibadan for allegedly belonging to the Eiye confraternity, a banned society in Nigeria. The suspects Ajao Fuad, Alabi Waris, Toheeb Adewale, Alabi Azeez, Opeyemi Busari, Hammed Ajisafe, and Agughawo Samson face charges of conspiracy, unlawful society membership, and breach of peace but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor ASP Foluke Adedosu told the court that the suspects conspired to commit offences on October 11 around Egbeda, Ibadan, where they were involved in initiation activities disturbing public peace. Their actions threatened the maintenance of law and order under sections 62, 64(a), and 249(d) of the Oyo State Criminal Code.
Defense counsel Ms. Bisi Olajide requested bail for the accused, which Magistrate Mrs. A.T. Oyediji granted at N300,000 each with two sureties of equal sum. The case was adjourned to November 18 for further hearing.
