CAMEROON PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA RE-ELECTED FOR EIGHTH TERM WITH 53.66% VOTE

Paul Biya, the 92-year-old incumbent and the world’s longest-serving president, has been re-elected as President of Cameroon, securing 53.66% of the votes, according to the country’s Constitutional Council announced on October 27, 2025. His main opponent, Issa Tchiroma Bakary of the Cameroon National Salvation Front, trailed with 35.19%.

Over 4.6 million voters participated out of over eight million registered, resulting in a 57% turnout, slightly higher than past elections. Biya, in power since 1982 and leading the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, is set for another seven-year term.

The constitution mandates Biya’s swearing-in within 15 days of the announcement, a formal event expected to include Parliament, the Constitutional Council, and Supreme Court members. The election followed a turbulent period marked by opposition protests and allegations of fraud.
