NIMET FORECASTS MIX OF DUST, RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NIGERIA, URGES CAUTION

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting varied conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday. Northern states like Borno, Zamfara, Kaduna North, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina will experience slight dust haze with good visibility on Monday. Afternoon thunderstorms and light rains are expected in Taraba and Adamawa.

Central regions including the FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi will enjoy sunny skies with occasional clouds but later experience isolated thunderstorms and light rain. The southern states will have a cloudy start on Monday followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rain in states like Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and others.

On Tuesday, dust haze continues in northern states, with thunderstorms and light rain persisting in Taraba and Adamawa. The central region will see sunny skies with early rains in Benue and moderate rain later in FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi. Southern states expect moderate to heavy rainfall with flood risks in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River—prompting calls for emergency measures.

Wednesday forecasts predict sunny northern skies with isolated thunderstorms later, cloudy southern mornings with thunderstorms and moderate rains through the afternoon. NiMet urges motorists to exercise caution on wet roads and advises respiratory disease sufferers to limit exposure in dust-affected regions.

Airlines and the public are encouraged to stay updated with reports from NiMet for safety and travel planning.
