Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, made a stunning comeback in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco by securing a dominant 4-0 win over Samoa. Queen Joseph led the charge with two goals, while Captain Shakirat Moshood netted a penalty and Azeezat Oduntan added a stylish fourth.
After tough losses to Canada and France earlier, the Flamingos knew a big win was essential to advance. They opened the scoring within 13 minutes, with Joseph finishing a slick pass from Moshood. Moshood then converted a penalty to double the lead, followed by Joseph’s second goal just before halftime.
Despite missing a penalty early in the second half, Nigeria maintained dominance, with Oduntan sealing the victory in the 67th minute. The team’s goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu also made crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.
With this win, Nigeria has secured their place in the Round of 16, building on their proud history as bronze medalists from the 2022 edition in India.
