Simon Nkom, President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), has been re-elected unopposed for another four-year term during the recent NHF presidential poll held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Nkom, also a newly elected board member of the African Hockey Federation, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their support, calling the victory a collective success for Nigerian hockey.
Nkom highlighted NHF’s commitment to grassroots development, noting most national players began their careers under the age of 18, with continuous talent nurturing through age-group competitions, including under-21 tournaments nationwide. He stressed the importance of improving access to artificial hockey pitches to better prepare players for continental and global competitions.
The NHF president appealed for enhanced partnership and funding from the private sector and media, praising the media’s current role while urging greater coverage for hockey and all sports disciplines.
The federation plans to unveil a strategic roadmap for the next four years soon, promising to take Nigerian hockey to new heights.
