NDDC LAUNCHES STRATEGIC NAVAL BASE IN AYAKORO TO TACKLE PIRACY AND OIL THEFT IN BAYELSA

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially unveiled a state-of-the-art Naval Strategic Location in Ayakoro community, Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State, aimed at curbing piracy, kidnapping, and oil theft across the region’s waterways. NDDC Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, stated this project is pivotal in sustaining Navy efforts and boosting security in the Niger Delta.

The facility boasts a fully furnished administrative block, accommodation, two gunboats, operational vehicles, and a floating jetty. Positioned strategically at a major creek intersection, it blocks major criminal escape routes used for illegal oil activities and kidnapping, reinforcing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on security.

Ogbuku highlighted the commission’s strong partnership with the Nigerian Navy, noting crude oil production rose from one million to 2.2 million barrels per day—a direct result of improved security and stakeholder collaboration. The project also enjoys community support, with land generously donated for a Navy School, and state government backing.

Community leader Chief Clever Apkoti praised the milestone as visionary leadership bringing development and safety to the area.
