Katsina State Government, partnering with UNICEF, has renewed its vow to eliminate preventable diseases like polio, ensuring no child is left behind. Speaking at the 2025 World Polio Day event, State First Lady Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko-Radda encouraged mothers and caregivers to take their children to health centers for vaccination to secure their future.
Dikko-Radda emphasized the dangers of vaccine hesitancy fueled by misinformation and alerted about the threat of circulating Variant Polio Virus type 2 (cVPV2), which, while silent, poses serious risk. She assured that the polio vaccine is safe and the strongest weapon available.
UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Kano, Mr. Rahama Mohammed-Farah, represented by Child Protection Specialist Ms. Fatima Adamu, highlighted significant progress with polio cases in Katsina dropping from 17 in 2024 to 2 in 2025. They stressed that polio is preventable with vaccines and called for continued immunisation efforts to protect children.
The call to action includes urging local government wives to sensitize communities on vaccination benefits, emphasizing that every child deserves a polio-free future.
