A fire broke out on Wednesday at Shuwaki Market in Gari, Kano, destroying 529 temporary stalls about half the market’s total. The Kano Fire Service sprang into action after getting an alert at 3:25 p.m., rushing firefighters and trucks to stop the blaze from spreading. Thankfully, no lives were lost.
The fire’s cause? Careless behavior by some drunk residents around the market. The Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, urged everyone to handle fire and flammable items carefully to avoid repeat disasters.
Authorities are now assessing the full damage and working with local officials to support affected traders and restore normal market operations as soon as possible.
