FG RELEASES ₦32.9 BILLION TO BOOST PRIMARY HEALTHCARE UNDER BHCPF 2.0 REFORM

The Federal Government has disbursed an additional ₦32.9 billion through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) as part of the BHCPF 2.0 reform agenda to strengthen primary healthcare centers nationwide. Announced by Dr. Oritseweyimi Ogbe at the 12th Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting in Abuja, this is the third tranche for 2025 aimed at improving transparency and accountability in fund use at the community level.

With increased outpatient attendance and skilled birth deliveries reported between Q1 and Q2 2025, the fund supports over 8,000 primary healthcare facilities, scaling up to 13,000 under the new phase. The rollout includes a two-pronged accountability framework involving self-assessment by health gateways and citizen-led monitoring through civil society groups, ensuring transparency and measurable improvements toward Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.
