The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Ushafa Divisional Police Officer after a video went viral showing the officer slapping a young man during an arrest. The incident sparked public outrage on social media, prompting swift action from the police leadership.
In a statement by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police condemned the officer’s behavior as unprofessional and falling short of the high standards expected of police officers. The officer has been moved to the Command Headquarters pending a full investigation. The Commissioner reminded all police officers in the FCT to maintain professionalism, respect, and lawfulness in their duties, warning that any abuse of power would be met with severe sanctions.
He also called on the public to engage respectfully with police officers, emphasizing that mutual cooperation is vital for effective policing and community safety. Residents were urged to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency numbers to help maintain security in the FCT.
