DR. ZAINAB MU’AZU URGES PREGNANT WOMEN TO GET TETANUS VACCINE FOR SAFER MOTHERHOOD

Gynaecologist Dr. Zainab Mu’azu from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi is encouraging all pregnant women to get vaccinated against tetanus. She explains that the vaccine protects both mothers and newborns from dangerous infections like tetanus and diphtheria, especially before babies can get their own vaccines.

Dr. Mu’azu also stresses the importance of family support, poverty reduction through education, and economic empowerment to boost maternal and child health. She advocates for free family planning, exclusive breastfeeding for six months, and improved access to immunization and antenatal care. According to her, free and quality antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care services are essential to reduce maternal and infant deaths.

She adds, “A healthy mother means a healthy baby.” Pregnant women should start antenatal visits early, maintain balanced diets, and follow up after birth to ensure the best outcomes for mother and child.
