Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stressed that Africa’s persistent underdevelopment is rooted in “transactional leadership”—leadership driven by personal gain rather than national progress. Speaking at the 2025 Innovate Africa Conference in Abuja, Wike urged a shift toward transformational leadership based on vision, accountability, service, and courage.
He highlighted Africa’s wealth and youthful energy but noted the paradox of ongoing poverty, weak institutions, and infrastructure decay. Wike called for servant-leaders who inspire rather than rule, and praised Abuja’s infrastructural renewal as an example of how visionary leadership can produce tangible results. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for bold reforms like subsidy removal and decentralizing governance.
Wike emphasized infrastructure, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and inclusive investment as keys to Africa’s economic rebirth. He challenged leaders and citizens to act with conviction, asserting the continent’s future belongs to those who build it.
