PLANNED PARENTHOOD NIGERIA URGES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO INCLUDE LIFE-SKILL AND HEALTH EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS

Dr Okai Haruna, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), has called on the government to incorporate Comprehensive Life-Skill and Health Education into the school curriculum to raise awareness among young people. Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Abuja, Haruna highlighted the importance of educating adolescents on their bodies, sexual reproductive health, and rights to reduce unplanned pregnancies and promote healthy upbringing.

He emphasized that sex is a natural topic parents should openly discuss, and that PPFN’s program provides counselling and answers questions to empower youth with the right knowledge. Teachers and students present echoed the call for open communication at home and authentic education in schools to address misconceptions and ensure young people receive trustworthy information about reproductive health.
