NIMR CALLS FOR BOOST IN RESEARCH LITERACY AND FUNDING TO POWER CLINICAL TRIALS

Dr. David Oladele, Deputy Director of Research at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), has urged for improved public and policymaker understanding of research and increased financial support to enhance clinical trials in Nigeria. Speaking during a media chat in Lagos, Oladele emphasized that clinical trials are vital for assessing the safety and efficacy of drugs and are central to advancing health science in the country.

Highlighting past NIMR successes, including HIV drug trials and COVID-19 research, he stressed the importance of overcoming low research literacy among health workers and decision makers to secure better funding and policy support. NIMR continues to lead multi-country studies and strives to strengthen its regulatory and collaborative frameworks to boost clinical research locally.
