GROUP URGES NIGERIA TO DECLARE NATIONAL DAY FOR SINGLE PARENTING TO SUPPORT FAMILIES

The Memunat Single Mother and Child Initiative has called on the Federal Government to set aside a National Day dedicated to single parenting, spotlighting the challenges faced by single parents and their children in Nigeria. Founder Mrs. Memunat Idu’Lah emphasized the importance of this day to raise awareness, mobilize support, and foster national dialogue on single parenthood during the 2025 National Conference on Raising Future Leaders in Abuja.

Citing the US example where National Single Parent Day is marked with community support and fundraisers, Idu’Lah urged Nigeria to similarly recognize the struggles and resilience of single parents. The conference also featured testimonies from single mothers and highlighted the urgent need for societal acceptance, legal protections, and economic support to help raise children who will be valuable contributors to the country.
