EXPERT URGES NIGERIAN WOMEN TO PRIORITIZE EARLY DETECTION AND HEALTHY LIVING AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Dr. Samuel Otene, a Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist, has called on Nigerian women to adopt lifestyle changes, perform regular self-examinations, and seek early medical help to improve breast cancer outcomes. Speaking at a workshop during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, he highlighted that late detection and limited access to screening contribute to Nigeria’s low survival rates.

With breast cancer being the leading cause of cancer death among women globally, Dr. Otene stressed that awareness and preventive care are crucial. Women, especially those over 40, are encouraged to do mammograms and watch for warning signs like lumps or nipple changes. He also asked journalists to intensify public education to dispel myths and reduce stigma around breast cancer.
