NNPC REPORTS SLIGHT DIP IN SEPTEMBER PRODUCTION AMID STRATEGIC MAINTENANCE, POSTS N216 BILLION PROFIT

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) recorded 1.61 million barrels per day (mbopd) of crude and condensate production in September 2025, slightly down from 1.65 mbopd in August, according to its monthly report. Natural gas output also moderated, reaching 6,284 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), compared to 6,949 mmscf/d the previous month.

The dip reflects planned maintenance across key upstream assets, including the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) facilities and phased recovery of previously shut-in wells. Delays in operations at Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 71 and 72 also contributed to the temporary decline. Despite this, NNPC declared N216 billion profit after tax and generated N4.3 trillion in revenue for September, with a total N10.073 trillion remittance to the federation account from January to August.

Experts describe the slowdown as a strategic recalibration to maintain asset integrity and ensure stronger performance in Q4 2025. As maintenance nears completion, industry insiders expect a rebound in crude and gas volumes, viewing this phase as a proactive step towards sustainable growth and infrastructure reliability.
