NIGERIA LAUNCHES WORLD ATHLETICS AFRICAN RUNNING CONFERENCE TO BOOST SPORTS ECONOMY

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has kicked off the World Athletics African Running Conference in Abuja, aiming to tap into Nigeria’s vast domestic sports potential. NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko shared during the event at Abiola National Stadium that this move fits perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of using sports as a major driver of Nigeria’s economy.

Dikko spotlighted road running as an area where Nigeria naturally excels and called for private sector support to sponsor more road races. The conference aims to ignite greater passion for running, promote Nigeria’s culture and economy, and foster collaboration among sports stakeholders. NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade hailed the event as a testament to Nigeria’s rising profile in global athletics, while World Athletics also praised the partnership and the potential for sports to drive economic growth under President Tinubu’s reforms.
