NIGERIA GOVERNORS’ FORUM URGES STRICTER SAFETY AFTER DEADLY NIGER TANKER EXPLOSION

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has called for urgent attention to safety in transporting combustible materials following the tragic tanker explosion in Katcha, Niger State, which has left at least 35 dead and dozens injured. NGF Chairman, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, extended condolences to victims’ families and commended emergency responders for their swift action.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the tragedy occurred as residents scooped fuel from an overturned tanker, which then exploded, causing severe casualties. FRSC sector commander A’isha Sa’adu warned against the dangerous act of scooping fuel and urged motorists to observe traffic rules to prevent similar disasters. The case highlights the urgent need for improved road conditions and stricter safety enforcement in fuel transport.
