Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa put on a masterclass performance on Sunday, sweeping past Nigeria’s Remo Stars 5-1 in the CAF Champions League second-round first leg at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta. The South Africans took control early with Tashreeq Matthews and Peter Shalulile putting Sundowns 2-0 up by halftime.
The dominance continued after the break with Miguel Reisinho adding a third goal before substitutes Arthur De Oliveira and Katlego Ntsabeleng sealed the commanding win. Despite a late consolation goal from Remo Stars’ Samson Olasupo, Sundowns’ commanding lead puts the Nigerian side under massive pressure as they prepare for the daunting return leg in Pretoria on October 26.
