SENATOR NED NWOKO PUSHES FOR NATIONAL SOCIAL SECURITY AGENCY TO MODERNIZE NIGERIA’S SOCIAL PROTECTION

Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) is championing the creation of a National Social Security Agency (NSSA) to replace the current Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. His vision is for an agency under the Office of the President that uses data-driven, biometric IDs and unified databases to provide targeted, transparent payments and long-term support to vulnerable groups including the poor, elderly, and unemployed.

Nwoko believes the NSSA will correct the current reactive and fragmented social welfare system, which often relies on short-term palliatives and donor-driven initiatives. By establishing a well-funded, legal agency with predictable entitlements and a first-line charge on the Federation Account, Nigerians’ right to survival will be recognized as a constitutional duty, not a favor. His bill, already gaining public support and passed first reading, aims to build a sustainable social safety net that can address root causes of poverty and promote dignity.
