NLC SETS FOUR-WEEK ULTIMATUM FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON TERTIARY EDUCATION TALKS

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is drawing a line in the sand, giving the Federal Government just four weeks to wrap up negotiations on the crisis-hit tertiary education sector. NLC President Joe Ajaero announced this ultimatum at an emergency briefing in Abuja after talks with education unions.

Ajaero emphasized that years of broken promises and underfunding have fueled ongoing strikes and instability in universities and colleges. Failure to meet the deadline will trigger nationwide action involving all workers and unions. The NLC is pushing for sustainable funding, a review of wage structures aligned with today’s economy, and an end to government officials attending talks without power to make decisions. “We won’t stand idly by as our education suffers,” he declared.
