Nigeria’s men’s and women’s hockey teams returned from the African Hockey Cup of Nations in Ismailia, Egypt, with pride and promise. The men clinched a bronze medal after defeating Kenya 3-1, marking their best performance in recent years, while the women gave a resilient display, narrowly missing the podium this time.
James Samaila led the way as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, showcasing Nigeria’s rising talent on the continental stage. Nigeria Hockey Federation President Simon Nkom praised the teams’ dedication and teamwork, calling the bronze a major boost for hockey’s growth in the country. The federation also thanked sponsors and fans, pledging continued support for grassroots development and international exposure as Nigeria looks ahead to the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup qualifiers.
