The Nigeria First Project Initiative has voiced strong opposition to the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest led by Omoyele Sowore in Abuja, accusing the activist of political motives and dual allegiance. National Coordinator Hamza Umar-Saulawa, speaking in Katsina, described the protest as a dangerous move that undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty and disrupts peace, especially in the South East.
Umar-Saulawa highlighted Nnamdi Kanu’s role in sustaining the proscribed IPOB’s violent activities, including enforced sit-at-home orders that harm ordinary citizens. The group warned that freeing Kanu, currently facing serious terrorism-related charges, could further destabilize the country. The organization also condemned a recent rumored coup attempt and praised intelligence agencies for protecting Nigeria’s democracy, which has thrived for 26 years.
